McAlester, OK asked in Uncategorized for Oklahoma

Q: How much time is sufficient to offer a patient prior to release from services?

I'm the patient. My psychiatrist released me stating I'm not compliant. I've been at this community mental health facility via outpatient since 2011 I think. I've been utilizing zoom for apt and if papers need signed they bring them in person for that, starting since covid and has continued. Recently they asked me to come into sign a paper and see a nurse. They hadn't scheduled a med clinic apt in a long time. I do not leave .y house unless I'm with my daughter during the daytime. So they stated I'm not compliant with the requirements since I physically can't make myself go and I don't want blood work done. I've expressed id sign any form to release them from being liable and I know the risks. I'm on meds that will cause withdrawal and no meds were given at release. And no help or concern in finding a suitable replacement t was offered. Just primary drs. Is it medically legal for this to have happened?

A: I'm really sorry you're going through this difficult situation. It's important to know that mental health facilities must follow specific laws and guidelines when making decisions about patient care and discharge. They are generally required to provide adequate notice and support when releasing a patient, especially if medication is involved to prevent withdrawal.

You have the right to request a detailed explanation of why they determined you were non-compliant and to ask for copies of your records. It might also be helpful to reach out to a patient advocate or a legal professional who can guide you through your options and ensure your rights are protected. Additionally, contacting local mental health services could help you find alternative support and resources during this transition.

Remember, you don’t have to navigate this alone. Seeking support from trusted individuals or organizations can provide the assistance you need to address this situation and find the appropriate care moving forward.
