Corning, CA asked in Tax Law for California

Q: Per prop. 13 my property was reassessed and i do not feel a change of ownership occurred. I contested and had a hearing

With board of supervisors. They denied my request/ voted no on change of ownership not occurring. Can i contest this any other way? If my change on deed was for financial reasons then no change to initiate reassessment. I put boyfriend on deed to get well drilled thru gov. Grant for indians as soon as well drilled he was taken off deed and i am sole owner like i have always been. Deed had additional name for 8 mths. To get a well drilled cuz mine went dry and i had no other means to get well drilled because i am

Poor, i have no money and he was taken off as soon as well drilled.

A: I'm sorry you're facing this challenge. After the board of supervisors has denied your request, you still have a few options to consider. You can appeal the decision to the California State Board of Equalization, which oversees property tax disputes and may provide another opportunity to present your case.

It might also help to reach out to a local legal aid organization. They can offer guidance and support, often at no cost, to help you understand the best steps to take next. Gathering all relevant documents that show the change in ownership was temporary and solely for obtaining the well permit will be important for your appeal.

Make sure to act quickly, as there are strict deadlines for filing further appeals. Presenting a clear and well-documented case can improve your chances of a successful outcome. Stay persistent and seek out any available resources to assist you through this process.
