Q: Did we do anything wrong to not receive our security deposit? Does she forfeit her right to the refund after 30 days?
We haven't received any word from our landlord regarding the deposit. We sent a text, the primary mode of communication, as one form of 30 day notice. She responded and said thanks. We also sent a hard copy of the notice with a forwarding address to her office and emailed a couple of days later to confirm. She also responded, got it. Now, it's radio silence. It's been over 30 days and no communication from her regarding the deposit. This seems in bad faith and sneaky on her part as we've always had steady communication via text or phone with her throughout our tenancy. During the final inspection of the house, she said it was in good condition. She also got it ready for sale within 30 days. So, no extreme damage on our part. The only angle she may be using is lawn maintenance. We maintained the lawn but hadn't trimmed the bushes/trees. They weren't too bad, certainly not $1650, our deposit amount, to have them cut by her handyman. No itemized list received or refund, nothing from her.
