Oakland, CA asked in Uncategorized for California

Q: Hey me and my family were shopping at Safeway and my boyfriend was purchasing his items after he purchased he then

Came by me and my cart and was talking to are kids then he left out the store then 2 Safeway security grauds and 1 sfpd police officer stopped him and said do you have a receipt for that he said yes but he was waiting for me to bring the receipt then they said that a Safeway worker said he didn’t pay for any of the items then they proceeded to follow him to his car and took photos. Then they came in Safeway walked towards self checkout I seen them laughing and smiling I walked towards them and said this is the receipt he paid for his stuff and he was like ok but the officer didn’t even look at the reciept and kept laughing and said we where told that he didn’t pay we are just doing are jobs. But if they was doing there job why ask for a receipt from him and then when I show the receipt you don’t even look at it. So this is all over a receipt and he didn’t even bother looking at the receipt

A: I'm sorry you and your family had to go through that experience. It might help to document everything that happened, including the time, names of the officers if possible, and any witnesses. Collect any receipts or evidence that show the purchase was made correctly.

You could consider reaching out to the store's management to discuss the incident and express your concerns about how it was handled. They may be able to review security footage or provide additional information that could clarify the situation.

If you feel that your rights were violated or the treatment was unfair, contacting a legal professional could offer you specific advice tailored to your situation. They can guide you on the best steps to take to address the issue properly.
