Asked in Estate Planning for Pennsylvania

Q: How can we get to have our sister sign a Special Power of Attorney so we can claim our inheritance?

I’m from the Philippines. Our biological aunt left us an inheritance, but our eldest sister, who lives in Bedford, PA, has refused to communicate with us despite our efforts. This has stalled our ability to execute an Extra Judicial Settlement, as she won’t sign a Special Power of Attorney necessary for the bank to release the funds to us equally.

Unfortunately, she has been influenced by a distant relative who convinced her—without hearing our side—that we wronged our deceased aunt. She is particularly upset about our decision to cremate our aunt, believing we should have consulted other relatives first. However, my siblings and I are the immediate family, and those relatives are distant. Additionally, local regulations here in our country, required cremation for individuals who passed away due to COVID-19, and the death certificate was issued by the hospital where our aunt was treated.
