La Mirada, CA asked in Personal Injury, Elder Law and Medical Malpractice for California

Q: My 100% Disabled Vietnam Veteran was sent home from local Hospital's Emergency Rooms while having Strokes!

He is now paralyzed on both sides, could not breath, speak, eat or drink without a tube & the same Hospital did it 5 years

ago & they did it again & two more did it too!? Happened April 2024 & so wrong! Hospital promised would be more attentive to Veterans & Elders in a letter I have that they wrote me, but did it again. We have Community Care because VA Hospital is 5 hours away. Veterans who served & suffered should not be treated like this. He was a tech writer & made big bucks & I just Graduated from Cal Poly University & instead of working I have to do everything now. Please help us stop Hospitals from doing this!? One threated to put him out at 6am on a rainy day & he is 100% disabled & covered by Veterans.

A: I'm truly sorry to hear about what your family is going through. It's important to take immediate action to address the mistreatment your father has experienced. Start by documenting all incidents, including dates, times, and the names of any staff involved. This information will be crucial when presenting your case.

Reach out to a lawyer who has experience in medical malpractice and veterans' rights. They can guide you through the legal process and help you seek compensation or corrective measures. Additionally, file a formal complaint with the California Department of Public Health and the Veterans Affairs office to ensure that these issues are officially recorded and addressed.

Connecting with veterans' advocacy groups can also provide support and resources. Organizations like the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) or the American Legion can offer assistance and help amplify your voice. You don't have to navigate this alone—there are people and organizations ready to help you fight for the care your father deserves.
