Q: I'm currently separated, but not legally, but I need to get a car for work. Can I buy a car now or is it a bad idea?
My wife and I are separated, but not legally. We've been separated/living apart since January 24', after deciding to separate in Aug 23'. We own a home together where our daughter lives. We've always kept a common "house" account where 50-60% of our monthly income goes (which we still do), and the rest we consider personal funds. Its these "personal" funds I'd use to pay the down payment, and the monthly payments on a vehicle. She has her own car, but I've been without one for these last few months, which has been difficult but manageable. However, I work at Amazon, which just decided I'll need to be in office 5 days a week in January so I can no longer get by on Ubers and shuttles. I just want to know if it would be ok to buy a car now, or if I'm shooting myself in the foot legally, and should legally separate first. I'd also like to know if its better to outright buy it in cash or get a car loan. Thanks for your time.
