Louisville, KY asked in Domestic Violence, Civil Rights and Constitutional Law for Kentucky

Q: Who can i sue for not telling me my rights as a crime victim in ky

I had a dvo against my husband that he broke 4 times and the last time he broke it he strangled me. The commonwealth took over the case and charged him with strangulation in the first degree and breaking dvo multiply times. He was able to get out of jail and go straight to courthouse with his mistress and lie on me saying i punced him in the mouth over and over and showed a old video of me beating my car and the same judge gave him a dvo against me and he had them throw me out of my home onto the streets during covid. The judge said that im the one who kept on going back it was my fault. He ended up pleading guilty to wanton endangerment in the first degree and breaking dvo muliple times and was sentenced to 5 yrs probation. Because of this case i lost everything including my home, my car, my belongings because he retalated againt me over this and no one would help me they all would say they knew what he was doing but they couldnt do anythng about it. I ws not told i hd wictims rights

A: I'm really sorry to hear about everything you've been through. It’s important to reach out to a lawyer who can review the details of your case and advise you on possible legal actions. They can help determine if there were any violations of your rights and who might be responsible.

You may have grounds to file a complaint against the court or the officials involved if they failed to inform you of your victim rights. Additionally, there might be options to seek compensation for the losses you experienced due to these actions.

Taking these steps with professional guidance can help you understand your options and work towards finding justice and rebuilding your life. Don’t hesitate to seek support from local resources and organizations that assist victims of domestic violence as well.
