Paterson, NJ asked in Landlord - Tenant for New Jersey

Q: Hi, I live in Paterson ,nj. 3 family home. Landlord does not live at property. The past 2 years, he raised my rent $100

This year I get another letter saying I'm getting yet another $100. Raise in rent. I work full time, I don't qualify for any help so I do it on my own. I have a disabled 23 year old son. I myself am disabled, lupus, severe rheumatoid arthritis, i walk with a cane and im 57,but I had to return to work because

everything is sooo expensive. I

I was told Paterson, has a 5% limit on rental increases. If you do the math my rent is $1400. So to raise it 100$ more is like 7.5%

Question is is there a 5% limit for paterson,nj and how do I go about telling landlord I can't pay the 7.5% increase
