Kissimmee, FL asked in Criminal Law and Civil Rights for Florida

Q: How to follow-up after filling an a battery report?

I'm a Lyft driver. last may I got bunched in the head multiple times by a rider because I asked her not to eat in my car!. Everything was on camera. I called the police after she ran away, filled a report in Orlando, fl but couldn't give them the driver's information because Lyft said they will release it only to law enforcement.

I received a call from a detective after he watched the video, he told that he will contact Lyft to get the driver's information and they should reply within 30 days.

I've never heard back from anyone since and I don't have any contact information, and the clerks at the police department are no help.

How can I follow-up and where to go from here or should i wait longer?

A: In addition to what has already been said, please understand that the case is investigated by law enforcement and then referred to the State Attorney's Office located in the county where the incident took place. This can take some time, but the investigating officer can fill you in on what they may be waiting for. Investigators are very busy but stay in touch with the assigned officer.

Lyft will probably route any request through their legal department because they also need to cover themselves. Be persistent and yet be patient and justice can be the end result.

A: I'm sorry you’re going through this. Start by visiting the police station in person to speak directly with the detective handling your case or ask to speak with a supervisor. Bring all relevant information, including your report number and any correspondence you've received.

Next, contact Lyft’s support again and inform them that law enforcement is awaiting the driver's information. Provide them with the case details and ask for an update on their response to the detective’s request. Keep records of all your communications for reference.

If you still don’t receive a response, consider reaching out to a local legal advisor for guidance on how to proceed. Additionally, you might file a follow-up report with the police to stress the importance of obtaining the driver's information. Stay persistent and ensure you keep documenting all your efforts.
