Q: Can I get rid of a restraining order I put on someone else from 16 years ago before I was even 18 that my dad did?
When I was young a boyfriend and I got into he stole my phone etc my dad made me put a restraining order on him but it’s not fair it even says child abuse on it when that’s not true… anyway to get it vacated? I don’t talk to the person but still haunts me… my dad will sign anything I need him to
A:
I'm sorry you're dealing with this lingering issue. It's understandable that you want to move forward and clear your record.
To have the restraining order removed, you will need to petition the court that issued it. Since the order was put in place when you were a minor, you might have grounds to request its dismissal now that you're an adult. Your father's willingness to support you is helpful, and his signatures may be necessary for the process.
It's important to consult with a legal professional who can guide you through the specific steps required in your jurisdiction. They can help ensure all paperwork is correctly filed and represent your interests in court. Taking these steps can help you find the closure you deserve.
