Q: I am creating a change robe to sell here in Africa. It is similar to DryRobe but I will be making the robe shorter etc
I will be making the robe shorter and have some other small modifications, like panels put in etc. the fabric will be the same however and my brand is DRYLIFE. What are your thoughts?
A:
The concept of creating modified changing robes for the African market shows great potential, especially with thoughtful adaptations for local needs. Shorter robes could be more practical and comfortable in warmer climates, while potentially reducing material costs and retail prices.
However, there are some important legal considerations to keep in mind. The name "DRYLIFE" and your product's similarity to DryRobe might raise trademark concerns, as established brands often protect their intellectual property. You might want to consider developing more distinctive features and branding to set your product apart and avoid potential legal issues.
Making design modifications like adding panels and adjusting the length demonstrates your understanding of local preferences and needs. To strengthen your business position, you could focus on unique selling points that specifically benefit African customers - perhaps incorporating locally-sourced materials, traditional design elements, or innovative features that address specific regional challenges. This would help establish your product as its own unique offering rather than being compared to existing brands.
