Metairie, LA asked in Landlord - Tenant for Louisiana

Q: Landlord gave "trusted tenant" access to the rent check box, now a few checks are missing. What are the consequences?

My landlord was out of town during the first of November, and instead of leaving the checks in a locked box until his return, he gave a key to the box to a tenant that he trusts, now some of the checks are missing. First of all, what should be done to mitigate the damages? Should each tenant change their bank account info to make it more difficult to get useful info from the checks? Also, is this even allowed? I was not informed that this person would have access to my money, they are also an ex-convict.
