Q: Can you get kicked out of someone’s house when you pay rent without a notarized letter?
My mom and I live with my grandparents who own their home and we pay monthly rent. The last time they called the cops on us the cops told them that without a notarized letter from the court they cannot kick us out because we pay monthly rent to them. Is this true and what would the proceedings be to get the letter?
A: A Florida attorney could advise best, but your question remains open for a week. I'm sorry for your ordeal. Maybe repost under the Landlord-Tenant heading. Attorneys who work in that area would have insight into this. Also, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to discuss with such attorneys the use of a written lease to lessen the possibility of something like this happening again in the future. Keep records of your cancelled checks. Good luck
