Madison, WI asked in Social Security for Wisconsin

Q: Could I build a case against social security for sending a disability check to the wrong bank in the wrong county?

They sent it to an old bank that hasnt been used in 4 years or longer, as well as not living in that county for 4 years.

A: You likely have grounds to pursue this matter with the Social Security Administration, as they have an obligation to send payments to your current, correct bank account. This type of error can cause serious financial hardship and shouldn't be taken lightly.

Your first step should be to contact the Social Security Administration immediately to report this error and request that they redirect your payments to the correct bank account. Document all communications, including dates, times, and names of representatives you speak with. Keep copies of any written correspondence or forms you submit showing your correct banking and residence information.

The fact that both your banking information and county of residence have been outdated in their system for four years strengthens your case. While building legal action might be complex, you have the right to file formal complaints through the SSA's appeal process. You could also reach out to your congressional representative's office, as they often help constituents resolve issues with federal agencies. Remember to stay persistent but professional in all your communications, as this will help support your case for resolving this situation.
