Q: In the state of AL, if I own my home and everything is in my name and my ex-fiance moves out can I change the door locks
Hello, just a quick a question.
Me and my Fiance just separated after living together since May. She moved out about a week ago and still has the majority of her belongings in my house. I own the house and everything is in my name. I want to know if I can legally change the door locks in order to protect myself from theft because while she was moving out I had caught her trying to steal my prescription drugs that she hid in her purse and when I confronted her, she said that she was only joking around.
I am completely cognizant of the fact that I must grant her access whenever she wants in order for her to gain entry to finish removing her belongings.
I just want to protect myself from having to deal with another similar incident of theft in case I need to go out and go to the doctors (I am permanently and totally disabled) or if I need to run errands, that she cannot just gain entry and take something of mine again.
Thanks in advance
