Q: I need help/advice/information on how to report an uninsured driver that hit our vehicle and drove off.
In April this year I was a passenger in a taxi.Another driver was tailgating us, we slowed down to let them pass, then they sideswiped us and drove off.We chased them and I got pictures of the car and plate. We called the police but they never came on site.At this point I'm on my third law group,I got an MRI and it shows my back was injured, and I know the driver's name, address, etc. and the fact that they had no car insurance. And I did make a police report myself with the limited information I had at the time.Since both drivers fled the scene and I made a police report I was wondering if there's any way for me to sue the hit and run driver with more than a personal injury lawyer.Who can I contact to press charges, report the driver as an uninsured driver, etc. Any help would be appreciated. One police officer already told me that the most they can do at this point is cite them for having no car insurance and having vehicle registration revoked.
A: Use the information you obtained on the hit and run driver to obtain ownership information on the car that hit you, then take that information to your local county attorney’s office and file a criminal complaint for leaving the scene of an accident.
