A: I'm really sorry you're going through this difficult time. At 18, you are legally an adult in North Carolina and have the right to make decisions about where you live. If your parents are preventing you from leaving or trying to control your decisions, it's important to understand your legal rights.

Consider reaching out to a local attorney who can provide guidance specific to your situation. Legal aid organizations in North Carolina can offer support if you're unsure where to start. They can help you understand the steps you need to take to establish your independence.

Additionally, connecting with a trusted counselor or support group can provide emotional support as you navigate this transition. Remember, you deserve to live in a safe and supportive environment, and there are resources available to help you achieve that.
