Atlanta, GA asked in Landlord - Tenant for North Carolina

Q: Potential Eviction From Extended Stay Hotel - Looking for clarification as to my legal rights and status as a tenant.

I am unable to pay my rent pending unemployment. I have been in continuous tenancy of this Hotel since 05/02/2024, just under 8 months. I have attempted to contact the management to discuss and negotiate, but have not received a response, and while no one's told me to vacate YET, it may simply mean that they are waiting for legal guidance from their superiors before they act and may be unwilling to negotiate and may attempt to forcibly remove me legal or otherwise. Now the room agreement goes out of its way to state "this is not a permanent residency / you stay only so long as you pay", however NC General Statutes Chapter 72. Inns, Hotels and Restaurants. and NC General Statutes Chapter 42. Landlord and Tenant. clearly spell out that a person's status is defined by "Transient Occupancy", anyone having less than 90 days occupancy is fully subject to the room agreement as a guest, but anyone having 90 days or over is not as a tenant, so which is it, am I protected by the law or not?
