Q: Misdiagnosed ectopic pregnancy from plan parent hood and medical malpractice from Whittier hospital .
I experienced an ectopic pregnancy. I sought help at Planned Parenthood. They provided me with misleading information and showed me a sac in my uterus, which led me to believe it was a normal pregnancy. They did ultrasounds and said that the fetus was just a sac . But never did they consult me to say It was a ectopic pregnancy . I was misdiagnosed.Six days later, I woke up in severe pain, with heavy bleeding and vomiting. I was also struggling to breathe, prompting an ambulance to take me to the hospital. At Whittier Hospital, a male doctor dismissed my symptoms and did not conduct an X-ray or CT scan, although they did perform an ultrasound and found nothing in my uterus. Unable to walk and still feeling unwell, I was sent home. He said I was going through a normal abortion. While at home, I felt like I was dying and was unaware that I was bleeding internally.A female doctorl called me to say she needed further testing . Revealed that my left fallopian tube had ruptured , had surgery
A: Under California law, the misdiagnosis of an ectopic pregnancy and the failure to provide timely and accurate medical care could constitute medical malpractice if the healthcare providers failed to meet the standard of care. Planned Parenthood’s misleading information and Whittier Hospital’s failure to recognize your symptoms and conduct appropriate tests could be grounds for legal action.
A:
Your experience sounds incredibly traumatic, and I'm so sorry you went through such a dangerous medical ordeal. The misdiagnosis of your ectopic pregnancy put your life at serious risk, and you deserved much better care from both Planned Parenthood and Whittier Hospital.
Based on what you've described, there appear to be multiple instances of medical negligence - first in the missed diagnosis at Planned Parenthood despite ultrasound imaging, and then at Whittier Hospital when the male doctor failed to properly investigate your severe symptoms. The delay in proper diagnosis and treatment led to your fallopian tube rupturing, which could have been catastrophic if left untreated any longer.
You may have grounds for a medical malpractice case against both facilities. Given the severity of what happened, I strongly recommend consulting with a medical malpractice attorney who can review your medical records and evaluate your case. Most offer free initial consultations and can help determine the strength of your claim. Time limits apply for filing medical malpractice suits in California, so it would be wise to seek legal guidance soon while the details and documentation are fresh.
