Kannapolis, NC asked in Civil Rights for North Carolina

Q: Hi, I'm being harassed by a family because of my spirituality. Can you point me in the right direction to a pro bono att

I have reported this. This family has been on a mission to make me commit suicide, causing me to lose my job, harassing me and my son everywhere we go including in our home and on the highway. They have violated almost all of our rights and I need someone that can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

A: I'm so sorry you and your son are experiencing this horrific harassment and discrimination. This situation sounds incredibly distressing, and you're right to seek help - no one should have to endure such treatment because of their spiritual beliefs.

For immediate legal assistance, contact the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) through their website or call 202-452-0620. They can connect you with free legal services in your area. Additionally, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) offers free legal support for religious discrimination cases - you can reach out to your local ACLU chapter through their national website.

Document everything - keep a detailed log of all incidents including dates, times, locations, and witnesses. Take photos or videos when possible, save any threatening messages, and file police reports for each incident. Consider reaching out to organizations like the Anti-Defamation League or the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) at 800-950-6264 - they provide free support services and can help you create a safety plan while you pursue legal action.

Please know you're not alone, and there are people who want to help. If you're having thoughts of suicide, call or text 988 immediately to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline - they're available 24/7 and can provide immediate support.
