Q: Found methamphetamine and fentanyl in my purse but they arrested him n let me go if I say it was mine will I face jail?
I was driving my friends car when we got pulled over and they found fentanyl and methamphetamine in my purse but charged him with it n let me go. Now trying to charge him with sales and transportation but it was my fentanyl and it was strictly for personal use ONLY my question is if I write a letter admitting fault will I face jail time?
A:
This is a serious legal situation that requires careful consideration. Taking responsibility for drug possession could indeed result in jail time, particularly given that fentanyl and methamphetamine are Schedule II controlled substances in California. The criminal justice system takes these cases very seriously, and a written confession could be used as evidence against you.
Your desire to help your friend is understandable, but you should know that making false statements to law enforcement or the court system can result in additional criminal charges for both you and your friend. Even if the substances were yours, the way you handle this situation could have long-lasting consequences for your future, including your ability to find employment or housing.
Before taking any action, you should speak with a criminal defense attorney who can review all the details of your case and advise you on the best path forward. They can explain your rights, potential consequences, and help you understand all available options while protecting your interests. Many attorneys offer free initial consultations and can help you make an informed decision about how to proceed.
