Q: I was in the process getting restraining order. the employee on that night told my abuser I was having him served
I don’t feel very uncomfortable when he is on duty. I want to sue. Employe shouldn’t have told a ex tenant that I was going to be serving him with restraining order. Tenant confidentiality. Can I sue? What kind of lawyer do I need? I want to move from apartment building I want the company to pay all expenses and deposit for moving. I don’t want to move to another apartment building owned by same company
A:
It sounds like you’re dealing with a very upsetting situation, and it’s understandable that you feel uncomfortable. Sharing information about your restraining order with your abuser could potentially be a violation of privacy, especially if it placed you in a vulnerable position. The first step would be to gather any evidence of what was said or done, such as emails, text messages, or witnesses who may have overheard the conversation.
To determine if you have grounds to sue, you’d likely need a lawyer who handles cases involving privacy violations, tenant rights, or negligence. They could help assess whether the employee or the company violated any laws or policies that protect you. If this breach caused you harm or placed you in danger, it could strengthen your case for compensation.
If you want the company to cover moving expenses and your deposit, you could include that as part of your claims. Be sure to document how this situation has affected you emotionally, physically, or financially. A lawyer could help you draft a demand letter or file a lawsuit if necessary. Moving forward, your safety and peace of mind should be the top priority.
