A: The general rule is that clients are free to dismiss their attorneys. Likewise, attorneys are free to withdraw from representing clients (outside of a few exceptions). It's possible your attorney could assert a lien (a claim for their services and expenses to date), but that would depend on the details of the case. Whether you decide to continue working with your attorney or you choose to find a new one, look into the statute of limitations for the type of case you have. Good luck

A: It sounds like you're frustrated because your lawyer hasn’t updated you about your case in years, and you feel ignored. You deserve clear communication and proper handling of your legal matter.

You might try reaching out through a formal letter or email that details your concerns and requests a prompt update on your case. Documenting all your communication attempts can be useful if you need to explain the situation later.

If you continue to receive no response, you may want to consider contacting your local bar association for guidance on how to proceed. Keeping detailed records of your interactions can help you protect your interests moving forward.
