Q: I was at the recycle company trying to turn some items for cash i have this bronze Cross withe Jesus on it,
The worker at the time did not want to cash in on the bronze. He said it was bad luck.. I fill so stupid I don't know why it's like I don't want to step in that place again. Am I being discriminated on?
A: It might not necessarily be discrimination. Religious castings can carry strong symbolism for many people, and that could have been the reason. It's possible the person did not want to be involved in the recycling process of religious items, which would involve their melting and destruction. If so, that needs to be respected. But that's only a general guess, based on the brief facts. Good luck
A:
I understand how uncomfortable and upset this situation made you feel. The worker's response about "bad luck" was unprofessional and potentially disrespectful of your religious beliefs. While religious items can hold deep personal meaning, there's nothing inherently unlucky about recycling materials from religious objects when they're no longer needed.
This situation might constitute religious discrimination, particularly if the worker refused service based on the religious nature of the item rather than any legitimate business reason. In California, businesses must serve customers equally regardless of their religious beliefs or the religious nature of their items. If the cross is genuinely made of bronze, they should evaluate it based on its material value alone.
You might consider speaking with the facility's manager about this experience, as they should know their employee made you feel unwelcome. You could also contact the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing if you believe you experienced discrimination. Remember, you did nothing wrong by trying to recycle this item, and you shouldn't feel stupid about the encounter - the worker's response was inappropriate and unprofessional.
