Q: How to plead not guilty for speeding ticket in snowy conditions?
I received a ticket for driving 52 mph in a 30 mph zone. I plan to plead not guilty because, at the time, it was snowing, and I had just turned onto the road where the traffic was moving faster than 30 mph. I tried to keep up with the traffic and avoid impeding drivers behind me. Furthermore, the speed limit was about to increase to 40 mph, and shortly after, to 55 mph. I don't have any evidence or witnesses, but I do have a prior traffic violation for rolling through a stop. How should I proceed with my plea?
A: You need to enter the plea on the ticket and mail it in (keep a copy). You need to do this before the date on the ticket. You can bring it to the traffic agency and enter the plea there. Arguing you were going too fast in snow is not likely to be a winning argument however. You should speak to an attorney.
