Q: Can I legally live with a friend if my adopted sister wants to relinquish responsibility?
I'm 16, approaching 17, and I'm considering living with my friend when she turns 18. Her father will provide her with $2k monthly, and she already earns $4k from her job. I was adopted by my sister, who wants me to live with someone else legally, as she wishes to relinquish responsibility. I am not involved with child protective services since it was a private adoption. My friend is aware of the financial and legal responsibilities, and I plan to get a job as well. Emancipation seems difficult because I rely on financial support from my friend. Is there a legal way for me to live with my friend without my sister having any legal obligations?
