Q: How to drop unauthorized use charges from Illinois, with pending Texas charges.
I need guidance on how to drop charges for unauthorized use of a vehicle. The incident was initially reported in Illinois, but the vehicle was recovered in Texas, and Texas currently has pending charges against my grandson, who is being held in a Texas jail. The report was filed by my son (the uncle of the defendant), not me, the grandmother. I never intended to press charges and wish to have them dropped. I'm willing to write a letter to that effect. Who should I contact to initiate this process, and what paperwork would be required from me in Illinois to drop the charges filed by Texas authorities? The insurance company has already settled the claim for the vehicle, and there were no injuries reported. My grandson was given permission to use the car but was unable to return it due to mechanical issues. He has no prior legal issues.
