Q: Can a builder bill me $20000 after terminating a contract due to unforeseen costs? Is this legal in WA?
I contracted a builder for my new home, and after a year, I received a cost estimate that was $250,000 over what I could afford, leading me to terminate the agreement. Three months later, I received an email from the builder's billing department about an additional $20,000 charge they recently found due to an employee transition. The contract was written, but I have not seen any specific clauses regarding billing errors or termination fees. I received no previous notice or documentation about this charge, and currently, I have not communicated with the builder's billing department. Is it legal for them to bill me for this unexpected amount, and do I have any recourse?
