Q: Can welfare office release withheld funds from deceased's bank account?
My mother was transferred to a therapy rehab after a hospital stay and had medical health insurance that was valid until after her passing. The rehab applied for Medicaid for long-term care, and I signed an "Estimated Patient Liability Form," which involves a monthly payment to the nursing home. The Medicaid application was denied because they required more information, which I have recently obtained. Meanwhile, the welfare office has withheld $1,900 from her bank account until they receive this additional information. My name was on her savings/checking account, but it's not now since she passed, and there was no will or trust. Will they release her money to me once they have the information?
