Q: Name change complications between Maine and Indiana legal systems.
I previously lived in Maine and legally changed my first name from "V" to "T" through my marriage certificate. After divorcing, I retained the first name "T" and obtained a court order changing my name to "T, Maiden Name" in Maine. I also updated my social security card to "T, Maiden Name." However, I did not change the name on my Maine license. The Indiana BMV does not recognize this name change because (1) it's not reflected on my Maine license and (2) Indiana does not permit first name changes via marriage certificate. Therefore, my legal name in Indiana is "V, Maiden Name," and my Indiana license is under that name. I've completed the required Indiana forms to change my name to "T, Maiden Name" but haven't submitted them yet. Should I include my Maine marriage certificate or divorce decree, or any other explanations when submitting these forms to address the name inconsistencies?
