i can only speak to the jurisdictions that i am familiar, indiana and illinois. contingent fee agreements are required to be in writing and your agreement should spell it out. i don't know what is meant by a service fee but typically the fee is 1/3, 40% if a trial plus out of pocket expenses... Even if you never told your landlord about the dangerous condition that caused you injury, you may have a legal remedy. Q: International Hotel - Injury

I was injured while vacationing in Aruba at the Westin. The Westin is owned by Starwood International, which is based in NY. Do I have to sue in Aruba or could I file in the US because the Westin is held by an american company?

You can sue in New York if the Westin, through Starwood International, does business in the the State of New York under the "Long Arm statute."
