Q: Is it common practice for a lawyer to charge a client for the drafting of an engagement letter in ILLinois?
I was billed for two and one half hours at a cost of close to $400 for reviewing my documents and the drafting of an engagement letter.
A: The answer would depend on whther there are special terms that the client insisted upon having included in the engagement letter.
A: I am sorry I did not see the supplement before answering. The answer would also depend on how extensive the documents were. Many lawyers will not charge for a review (not an analysis) of a few documents and a standard engagement letter
