Do I need a lawyer for a probation violation

It depends. You will definitely want/need an attorney if the state files a motion to revoke your probation. An experienced attorney can be the difference between staying on probation versus serving a substantial portion of the statutory jail sentence. If you have committed a violation that is insignificant enough that the state does not file a motion to revoke, an attorney can still be helpful in discussing the violation with your PO.

I concur with Mr. White's response. A lawyer can be helpful in any probation violation matter. If the State files a motion to revoke, you should definitely be represented by counsel.
