Q: hello, 2 years ago after my surgery I was mistreated by a nurse at henry ford

had half of my left lung removed, so have a good size scar on left side. surgery went well. however it was the treatment I received in recovery that has my concern. I was treated horrible only way to describe it is as a dog. a day and a half after my surgery I was moved to a private room. a step down from ICU, the nurses on hand didn't reconnect the pain meds, I laid in the hospital bed in pain for nearly 24 hours. my phone kept ringing and I couldn't get anyone of the staff to answer it or to give me my cell. I kept calling for the nurse or the nurses aid for help. finally I got something for pain and my cell. however the next evening, somehow in my sleep I ended up in the middle of the bed causing my epidural to pull out of my back. I laid there for hours. when the nurse finally came she made me climb back up in bed before she would give me something for pain. didn't help me or check the cause. took me almost half hour to get in bed right. but those were her words. there is more but

A: I believe I may have answered this question previously because the facility name seems familiar. My response was that although you suffered a painful and aggravating ordeal post-op, you mention that the surgery went well. Med mal cases are generally based on a breach of duty. As a practical matter, it is very costly to establish that breach and it generally requires the validation of a reviewing physician. My recommendation was that if you were contemplating legal action, to consult with a Michigan med mal attorney, and to do so without further delay to determine if your cause of action is still timely under the Michigan statute of limitations for medical malpractice. Good luck
