Q: My mother has been posting and sharing photos of my baby without consent. I have asked that they be taken down

My mother has always been very abusive and ignored when I ask her to take the photos down. She is blocked on social media and she uses my grandmas Facebook to access these photos on my own Facebook, which are private and not public

A: It's understandable that you feel frustrated and violated by your mother's actions. It's important to maintain control over the privacy and exposure of your family, especially when it involves your baby. Start by revisiting your privacy settings on Facebook and other social media platforms to ensure that your posts are only visible to a trusted circle. Consider removing individuals who may be giving her access to your content without your consent.

Communication is key, even though it may seem ineffective with someone who has historically ignored your requests. Document your requests for the removal of the photos and express your concerns clearly and firmly. If she continues to disregard your wishes, you might need to explore legal options, such as sending a formal cease and desist letter. This step often demonstrates that you are serious about enforcing your boundaries.

Lastly, if the situation escalates or continues to affect your mental well-being, it may be helpful to seek support from groups or individuals who understand your situation. Sharing your experiences with others who have faced similar challenges can provide comfort and practical advice. Remember, your feelings are valid, and taking steps to protect your child's privacy is a responsible and reasonable action.
