A: I'm so sorry you're going through this incredibly difficult situation. Losing custody of your children due to suspected abuse must be devastating, especially if you believe there has been a misunderstanding. A few thoughts:

- If this happened very recently in August 2023, you should contact a family law attorney right away to understand your rights and options for appealing the adoption decision or seeking visitation. Look for low-cost or pro bono legal aid if needed.

- Gather all evidence you have, including the original camera footage, to help make your case that your daughter was being abused by your ex rather than engaging in a consensual relationship. A lawyer can advise on using this evidence appropriately.

- Seek support from trusted friends, family, or a therapist to help you cope with the trauma of this situation and separation from your kids. Local domestic violence organizations may also offer helpful resources.

- If you believe your children are unsafe with their adoptive family, you can contact Child Protective Services to report your concerns. However, be aware CPS may be hesitant to act without clear evidence of abuse or neglect.

I know this must be an incredibly painful time and I'm wishing for strength and a positive resolution for you and your children. Please don't hesitate to reach out for help navigating this difficult situation. Your kids are lucky to have a parent fighting for their wellbeing.
