Columbus, OH asked in Uncategorized for Ohio

Q: What are the laws surrounding smoking outside at a place of employment in Ohio?

Hello. I am a volunteer & board member at a 501c3 non-profit museum in Ohio. (Please note that there are no paid employees here, we are all volunteer.) Another board member at the museum has brought the subject to the attention of the board that it may not be legal for volunteers to smoke outside on museum grounds (most of our museum is outside in open air, not an enclosed area), even when the museum is not open to the public. (For most of the on-season, the museum is only open to the public for four hours on Sundays.) No volunteer ever smokes inside any of the buildings at the museum, nor near the doorways/entrances, so that is not an issue. I smoke cigarettes. So does my husband who is also a volunteer & board member at the museum. There are also a few other volunteers who smoke &/or vape & would like to continue doing so outside on museum grounds when the museum is not open to the public, if the law allows us to do so. What are my rights? Thank you in advance for your help. - Belle
