East Hartford, CT asked in Criminal Law for Connecticut

Q: Is it larceny if I let someone(person b) use a car I had open ended permission and invitation to use?

It was an open ended permission and invitation to use this person’s (person a) car at will at any time with no established restrictions

I live in an in-law apartment located in the basement of person A house that I rent from person A on a month to month basis

They (person a) provided me with my own set of keys to said vehicle and I would take and use it very frequently without issue

I allowed someone (person b) to use the vehicle provided they return it to me within an hour

Person B never returned with person A’s vehicle

I was told by responding officer that it was not a criminal matter but rather civil because there was a chain of permission from person A to me and then myself to person B

Vehicle was located and returned to owner (person A) in same condition without damage of any kind

I was picked up on a warrant for C.G.S. 53a-119c larceny of motor vehicle a month late
