Birmingham, AL asked in Collections for Alabama

Q: Do I have any chance of winning a case against a collection agency that refuses to listen?

I received a bill from a collection agency, when I went to the place that I supposedly owed money to, they said they couldn't even find that I owed anything. I faxed copies of everything I have showing I don't owe anything to anyone to the collection agency and the place sending me to collections. Further more, as soon as I received the bill I paid it immediately just in case. That was 2 months ago. The collection agency has now reported a past due balance for an account that was already paid in full 2 months before. I faxed copies of everything, including proof that the account was paid in full. The collection company refuses to fix things, even though they admit they have all the documents proving without a doubt that I do not owe anything.

A: They may be violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act as well as the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Seek out an attorney who belongs to the National Association of Consumer Advocates to get more particular advice. There are some good ones in Alabama
