Q: We had a probate lawyer from Delaware to help us claim stock, in2008. They now want us to pay fees. Is this legal?

A: It's tough to answer your question without more information. Did you have a fee agreement with the lawyer? Were you previously billed by this lawyer? When did the lawyer's services end? When was the Estate closed?

Without answers to these questions, my advice would be to write a letter to the lawyer asking him to explain, in writing, how he calculated his fees, and why he waited until now to bill you. If you are not satisfied with the answers you receive, I invite you to log in again, post answers to my questions, and share with us what the lawyer told you in response to your letter. Good luck.
