Lithia, FL asked in Juvenile Law for Florida

Q: What is the Florida Policy for 18 year olds and Runaways?

I very, very close friend of mine recently told me a secret. She's a runaway child, left her abusive home at 15, and she has since turned 18 last year. She wants to enroll into collage and is worried if she is a criminal, since she has been under a new name and living with a best friend who's a part of social services. as a law student, im interested in helping my very close friend, and i need to know- is she a criminal? is she legal? what will happen if she turns herself in or something?

Don't bother with the links and things for reporting,i have plenty of those. i just want solid information on this question: After a runaway turns 18, are they still missing, and are they liable for charges of any kind, and what will happen to them?

A: You are a law student, right? Then get to the law library and do all of the research on this topic that you can think to do. Read the statutes covering this, and do searches using those statutes for cases in FL.
