Herndon, VA asked in Domestic Violence for Maryland

Q: What is the statute of limitation in Maryland for filing intimate partner violence charges from date of the incident?

My ex-boyfriend used to mentally, physically and later on sexually abuse me when we were together. I have several police reports for separate incidents. I finally left him and I got a Maryland Peace Order but I never pressed charges for any of the incidents because I did not want to get him in trouble. He recently accepted plea deal for Peace Order violations. I am now considering filing charges for all of the past Intimate Partner Violence incidents that I had reported to the police back. Do I have to go file my own charges at the Commissioner's or will the cops help me file them? I am really confused about following through with this. How much time do I have to make a decision?
