A: The judge does not award "years." The judge can award periods of disability (wage loss) and those periods can be open ended so that the employer/defendant has to demonstrate that your wage loss has lessoned or ceased entirely to stop or reduce payment. The judge can also award medical benefits pertaining to a specific description of injury. The judge cannot award a settlement. Any settlement would need to be agreed to by both sides. There are other forms of benefits such as disfigurement, specific loss, or death benefits that may or may not apply in your case. You would have to discuss additional potential benefits with your lawyer.
