Sykesville, MD asked in Family Law for Maryland

Q: what happens if I violate a consent order in Maryland?

Consent order says I will take my son to all activities even on my weekend. My son is 9 and my daughter (previous marriage) is in last year of high school who has a conflicting event.

A: If it happens regularly, the other parent can file for modification of custody and you can have your time with your child reduced. I would recommend keeping communication with the other parent as open as possible, keep the amount of times you are unable to take the child to an activity to a minimum, and if you have to miss the child's activity on your day, to try and arrange for transportation for the child (and if you cannot to communicate well in advance with the other parent). The more you communicate and the more you have help from others, the more likely things will go well and therefore the less likely for any modification needing to be filed.
