Fort Lauderdale, FL asked in Animal / Dog Law for Florida

Q: Aggressive Dogs

My neighbor has 3 aggressive and unleashed Dobermans. Initially, the 3 dogs charged me on my property. I called the sheriff. The sheriff instructed them of the laws pertaining to dogs. The neighbor said he would get a fence. He has yet to get a fence. The second time, the 3 dogs chased me down the street. I called the sheriff again and this time I also called animal control. I was told by animal control that only fines could be issued unless the dogs bite someone. I live in Florida, I have a firearm and a concealed weapon license. Will I be charged with animal cruelty and/or discharging of a firearm if I shot the dogs, I’m on my property, and I am in fear of my life? In addition, what else can I do to protect myself? Thank you for your time.

A: Keep calling the cops and animal control when they get loose.
