Fairbanks, AK asked in Family Law for Alaska

Q: Retiring in August 2015. Spouse and I have agreed to go our seperate ways. Divorce vs. Anullment.

We have a child who is enlisting into the army, waiting to sign the papers. Child is 17 at the moment and will be 18 in November. Child has lived with Mother during the duration of my military career. How would child support be handled. Also, I am in AK and the Spouse is in NC. What would be the best way to handle this.

If I do an anullment and both parties agree to everything is that an option? I want to file soon. Thank you

A: If you and your spouse had a child during marriage, then you have a couple of options. The first is to file a joint petition for dissolution. The second option is to file an uncontested divorce case. You can find the forms on-line at http://www.courts.alaska.gov/shc/family/shcforms.htm.
