A: You have been charged with a 2nd degree felony. It is a serious offense which could potentially land you in prison for a minimum of three years. It is time to hire a private criminal defense attorney. Your freedom depends upon it. The attorney will investigate all of the facts and circumstances and will do what is necessary to establish valid defenses, including reading all of the police reports in this matter and research, as well as perhaps taking depositions of the state's witnesses. If the attorney cannot get the case dismissed, he will try to negotiate an acceptable plea agreement, and if that is not possible, then we prepare for trial. You need to at least actually go see a private criminal defense attorney about this so that you can get an idea of what to expect and have a full discussion.
