Conyers, GA asked in Employment Law for Georgia

Q: Can an employment lawyer assist me?

My wife and I left our jobs in Orlando, Florida and moved to Atlanta, Georgia for a position I had accepted with a new company. A few days prior to my start date I received a call that I was ineligible for hire due to a misdemeanor from several years ago. As unprofessional a practice as that is, I understand it is perfectly Legal. My issue is where they continuously send me payroll checks, New Associate Enrollment packets, and benefits information even after I contact them each time to correct the issues. Today I received an email from their HR department that theyve booked me a hotel room for some conference in VA. Isnt this some form of harassment? It probably wouldnt be too bad for me except that I still have not been able to secure a job and its taunting me every time I get a new correspondence from them. I just dont understand what is so hard about getting them to not contact me anymore.

A: I would make a copy of all correspondence and checks, return everything to the person of origin with a cover letter. Send the packet by certified mail, return receipt. If checks and correspondence continue to arrive, contact an employment lawyer.

This simply doesn't sound like the actions of a responsible company. So, you have to protect yourself.
