Thurmont, MD asked in Criminal Law for Maryland

Q: tourist in trouble

Hello, This question is for a good friend of mine. He was accused of sending some pounds of marihuana to another state, and was accused of laundering money. He has not done this, but was hanging out with the wrong people who were doing that. He was arrested and was bailed out. His hearing was recently moved because the lawyer they gave him still does not receive the police report. In the mean time he is running out of money and he still doesn't know what is going to happen, he doesn't know how long all this is going to last, he does not even know what proof they have to accuse him since the police report has not been received Yet. We are worried because his visa will expire in January and we have been told that this things take long. What should he do?

A: He should hire a private criminal defense attorney as well as seek advice from an immigration attorney. You have asked nothing but private attorneys to answer this. Did you expect a different answer? The attorney he hires will investigate all the facts and circumstances and represent him accordingly, which would always include seeing if there is a reason to get the case dismissed, negotiating a resolution with the prosecutor, and trying the case when necessary.
